Sixth Grade Benchmarks
Reading/Language Arts
- Comprehend a variety of written materials while identifying character, plot and setting in a story
- Understand Cause/Effect, Inferences, Generalizations, Compare/Contrast, Drawing Conclusions, Summarizing,
- Author's Purpose, and Fact/Opinion
- Write a persuasive, narrative, and expository paper
- Demonstrate correct grammar usage including parts of speech, capitalization, and punctuation
- Write a research paper
Math
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and decimals
- Read and make graphs
- Add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators
- Identify angles and lines and compute measurements
- Convert customary and metric distance, capacity, and weight
- Understand and compute perimeter of polygons, compute area of rectangles and triangles, and identify solids
Students must achieve 60% on these assessments.

Homework Policy
Assignments must be completed at the beginning of the next day's class period.
- 1st late assignment: warning and stay in from recess to complete the assignment
- 2nd late assignment: warning and stay in from recess to complete the assignment
- 3rd late assignment: referral and after school detention (under principal's discretion)
- 9 late assignments in 1 quarter: After school homework intervention
