Department Bio

The goal of the Dakota Science Department is to help students recognize and appreciate the application of science to everyday living.  No matter what your career choice will be, everyone must have a balance between the studies of physical, earth, and life sciences to be a success.

Junior High Benchmarks

Benchmarks are activities that the student must pass in order to move on to the next grade level.

Exploravision starts around mid-November

7th graders will be placed in groups.  They will then pick a topic from which they will write 5 papers.  The topic of these papers are as follows:

History: A research paper that should give information on how the topic was created, used, and changed.
Present: A research paper that should give information on how the product is used in today's society.
Future: Students must make imporvements and changes to there product into what they think the product
may look like in the future.
Breakthroughs: This is a paper that builds fromt the future paper. This should cover what needs to be created for the future product to work. 
Consequences: This paper should contain the good and bad things that can come from the future product.

9-Task starts around March

7th graders will be placed in groups. They will be able to pick from 9 seperate tasks in which they must complete one of the tasks.

8th Grade Science Fair starts around December

8th graders will conduct a science experienment of there choice.  They will prepare a research paper, lab report, and a display board.  All of these will be presented by the student to judges in which they will be graded.
