Social Studies Education
Meet our Department:

Michael Bicksler is a Dakota graduate who earned his Associates degree from Highland Community College, his Bachelor's degree from Illinois State University, and his Master's degree from National Louis University. Mr. Bicksler began his teaching career at Freeport High School in 1996 before returning to Dakota High School in 2002. Mr. Bicksler teaches World History, U.S. History, CSI, Criminal Justice, and AP European History. He is also an Assistant Varsity Football Coach and serves on the Stephenson County Sheriff Reserve's Unit. 

Kevin Cline has been teaching at Dakota since 1994. Mr. Cline earned his Bachelor's degree from Illinois State University in 1993 and his Master's degree from Northern Illinois University in 2006. Mr. Cline teaches Psychology and Sociology and seves as the Social Studies Unit Leader. He is also the Head Girls Basketball Coach. Mr. Cline is married and has two daughters. .

Britton Kauffman graduated from Dakota High School before attending Illinois State University, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in 1998.  He later went on to earn his Master's degree from National Louis University in 2005. Mr. Kauffman joined the teaching staff at Dakota seven years ago. He teaches Geography and U.S. History. Mr. Kauffman also serves as Junior High Student Council Advisor and coaches Varsity Baseball, is the Varsity Football Offensive Coordinator. Mr. Kauffman is married and has a son and daughter.

Dean Lotz earned his Bachelor's degree from Western Illinois Universtiy. He has been teaching at Dakota High School since 1997. Mr. Lotz teaches Civics, IL History, U.S. History, and Modern American History He also serves as the Awards Night spokesman for Dakota Jr./Sr. High School. Mr. Lotz is married and has two  daughters.
