Changes Comming to the Jr/Sr High School
The staff of Dakota Jr/Sr High School has been assessing student data using a variety of achievement test scores and local assessments. Data is indicating that our students are not achieving at a level at which we believe they have the potential.
We will be implementing changes for the 2011-12 school year, the most obvious being the student schedule format. We will be moving from the block schedule to a seven-period instructional day plus a period for lunch. Classes will meet every day rather than every other.
A 50 minute lunch period will include a tutorial period for students who are identified as needing extra assistance and interventions. Students will be identified using assessments and teacher referrals. Students will move in and out of tutorial as their needs identify. Students not receiving tutorial will have a variety of options during a lunch period, including going to the library or computer lab, remaining in the cafeteria, along with other options yet to be identified.
Preregistration materials have been distributed to 8th – 11th grade students. Students will select 7 classes from their grade-appropriate preregistration sheets. The course directory and sample four year plans are available at www.dakota201.com, click on Jr/Sr High School then the Student Service link. Hard copies are available upon request. Please contact the school as questions arise.
