Invitation to Public Forum

The Dakota School district invites you to attend a public forum conducted by the Illinois State Board of Education. Our District has been selected for a focused monitoring review regarding educational placement decisions for students with disabilities. The team leader with the State Board of Education will provide information about the focused monitoring process and request input on your involvement in making placement decisions for your child who receives special education services

We are pleased to welcome you to the Dakota Community Unit School District 201 website. DCUSD 201 has a long and proud tradition of excellence in education. Our board and staff are committed to providing the highest learning standards in a safe and welcoming educational environment.

The DCUSD 201 is located in Stephenson County with the school being in Dakota, Il. We provide a wide variety of educational programs, services and settings, including a daycare, preschool program, a traditional K-6 setting, as well as an exceptional secondary level curriculum and vocational opportunities. The district also is a member of the NWSE, a special education coop for special needs students and Career Tech, a vocational education coop.

We encourage the support of the community volunteers and parent helpers, knowing full well that successful schools partner with families and communities to provide strong support for academic achievement. We welcome your involvement and input. Feel free to call our District office at 815-449-2832.

Dakota Building and Trade Program

Dakota's Building Trades Program has been building houses for community members for many years. Building Trades Instructor, Nick Katzenberger, and his "Trades" students build one house from the ground up each year. In 2007-2008, the Building Trades Program built a house for Greg and Nancy Folk. In 2008-2009, the Trades program built a house for Mike and Whitney Lawler. The 2009-2010 project was built for Aaron Lawler. The 2010-2011 project was built for Michelle and Neal Shippy. This years projects are being done for David and Melody Graybill and Jayson and Holly DiModica.

Emergency Closing

Emergency closing information will be announced using SchoolReach, an automated notification system. Emergency closing information will also be announced over local radio stations WFPS 92.1 FM, WEKZ 12.60 AM and 93.7 FM, and WZOK 97 FM and over local TV stations 23 WIFR, 13 WREX, and 17 WTVO. If school is dismissed during the school day, this closing information will be found here on our website.

Dakota School District has a Circuit Training Fitness Center with 36 stations that is open to the public.
The Fitness Center also has stationary bikes, treadmills, and an elliptical trainer.
Cost is $1.00 per session.
Getting in shape can be fun!
Summer hours are 7-9 am Mon through Thurs.
